for 2006 Pennsylvania Primary Election Legislative Candidates
1. What are the strengths and weaknesses of Pennsylvania's system of funding public education? What should the Pennsylvania Legislature do, if anything, to improve the system of funding public education? (75 words or less) To eliminate unfunded mandates that is only a tax increase through the back door and blaming it on the school system. 2. How should the Pennsylvania Legislature assist school districts to meet the requirements of Pennsylvania's regulations for academic standards and graduation requirements as well as the federal No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB) that expects every student to demonstrate proficiencies on state assessments in reading, math and science by 2014, and for all schools to demonstrate "adequate yearly progress" (required by NCLB) toward that goal? (75 words or less) History will show No Child Left Behind Act is one of the worst governmental exploitation to a system that has many regions & cultures. We could study each school district on strengths & weaknesses, offer modern technology with distance learning, have the stronger school districts help the less fortunate districts to achieve their goals. 3. How should the Pennsylvania Legislature assist school districts to close the academic achievement gaps that exist among groups of students in schools and school districts across the Commonwealth? (75 words or less) Have a study plan of successful states that have achieved the academic gaps & model & improve the success. Once again, introduce distance learning interactive teaching, strong helping the weak. 4. What, if anything, should the Pennsylvania Legislature do to increase access for young children in Pennsylvania to high-quality pre-K programs and full-day kindergarten programs? (75 words or less) Presently we have standards K thru 12 to introduce full days to pre & K. We need to increase our standards PK thru 14 instead K thru 12. 5. What is your vision of the public education opportunity that should be available to every child in Pennsylvania and what will you do to accomplish that goal? (75 words or less) Within the public school districts students should have the freedom in choosing academic courses from one district to another that may be more challenging to them and also more cooperative statewide interactive distance learning, Use our technology wisely & get with the 21st century. 6. Is there anything else that you will do to strengthen Pennsylvania's public education system? (75 words or less) Small class sizes, more rotating teachers to assist the core teachers. Less paperwork, more time in the classroom for teaching, mandate parents participation or remedial classes parenting & teaching how to educate your child with the public school system. DVD & videos for parents that work p.m. & cannot make it.
