HOUSE BILLS
House Bill 502 (Rep. Thomas Yewcic)
Requires the Department of Education to utilize at least six
commercial exams, in addition to the PSSA, at each eligible grade
level to determine students' eligibility for education support services.
House Bill 800 (Rep. Nicholas Micozzie)
Provides for the successful school budget subsidy system, career ladders
for teachers, teacher coaches, training for school board members,
an Academic Achievement and Accountability Commission, and more.
House Bill 1468 (Rep. Robert Godshall)
Allows the PSSA scores of ESL students who have received less
than one year of "appropriate" English instruction to be withheld
in calculating whether a district is placed on the Education Empowerment list.
House Bill 2381 (Rep. Daryl Metcalfe)
Allows parents to exempt their children from any test or
instruction conducted by the district.
House Bill 2393 (Rep. Daryl Metcalfe)
Prohibits persons or organizations who score state PSSA exams
from flagging student responses.
House Bill 2497 (Rep. Daryl Metcalfe)
Requires the state Department of Education to promulgate
regulations to protect the confidentiality of students' test
scores.
SENATE BILLS
Senate Bill 503 (Sen. James Rhoades)
Requires school districts identified for corrective action
under No Child Left Behind to enter into an academic improvement
program. Intermediate unit board of directors would be responsible
for appointing academic improvement teams who would be responsible
for creating an improvement plan for the district. SB 503 also
requires PDE to provide technical assistance to improvement teams
and provide professional development tailored to classroom practices
to raise student performance in core content areas.
