HARRISBURG — State Rep. Paul Clymer — who proved compassion and a gentlemanly demeanor can be effective traits for a politician — is retiring after 34 years representing the Perkasie area of Bucks County.
Clymer, a Republican, has represented the 145th District since 1981. He is chairman of the House Education Committee and is one of the Legislature’s last true opponents of legalized gambling.
In a statement issued Thursday, Clymer, 76, said he will not seek re-election when his current two-year term expires in December.
