On another day when a school-related sex crime was grabbing midstate headlines, a pair of Pennsylvania lawmakers issued calls for action at the federal and state levels on what might be called a “One Strike” bill for teachers and school employees.

As in – if you ever molest a child – you are not coming back to work into the education field.

U.S. Sen. Pat Toomey called for swift passage of a federal bill that would use the lever of school aid payments to force all states to have policies subjecting school employees and even contractors who have contact with students to criminal background checks in their hiring process and periodically throughout their careers.

Meanwhile, state Sen. Anthony Williams, D-Philadelphia, issued a fresh call for action on his bill that seeks to stop the inter-district movement of problem employees.
