The state Senate passed legislation to provide flexibility in the 50-year-old funding arrangement that Harrisburg Area Community College has with its 22 sponsoring school districts.

The measure, which passed sponsored by Sen. Pat Vance, R-Cumberland County, now goes to the House for consideration. An identical bill, sponsored by Rep. Sheryl Delozier, R-Lower Allen Twp., has been sitting idle in the House Education Committee since last spring.

If enacted into law, it would have no effect on the funding of the state’s 13 other community colleges.

Vance said her proposal looks to put into law the process that HACC and its sponsoring districts (listed below) went through last year to negotiate an agreement that cuts in half the district’s combined contributions to the college.
