Gov.-elect Tom Wolf announced on Monday nominations to the Department of Education and Labor and Industry Department.
Pedro Rivera, superintendent of the Lancaster School District, was nominated to serve as the secretary of the Department of Education and Kathy Manderino, campaign manager for Fair Education Funding, received the Department of Labor and Industry nomination. Both nominations must be approved by the Senate.
Under Rivera’s tenure, graduate rates and state assessment scores rose at the Lancaster School District, according to a news release. The district’s budget also has grown by millions, the news release stated.
“Pedro Rivera is nationally recognized for his efforts to improve urban education, and we will work with me to build a strong public education system and get Pennsylvania back on track,” Wolf said in a statement.
