School districts, parents will take school-funding challenge to state Supreme Court

Sixteen years after the state Supreme Court found it lacked a yardstick to assess the fairness of Pennsylvania’s education funding scheme, lawyers challenging the system say they’re hopeful the high court will now see the issue differently.
After a Commonwealth Court panel on Tuesday dismissed a lawsuit by parents and six school districts claiming the state education funding system is unconstitutional, their lawyers said they will file an appeal with the state Supreme Court.
The schools districts, which include Carbon County’s Panther Valley, filed the suit in November along with the Pennsylvania Association of Rural and Small Schools and the state NAACP.
