Pennsylvania Education Policy and Leadership Conference 2003
The first annual Pennsylvania Education Policy and Leadership Conference, sponsored by The Education Policy and Leadership Center, was held March 23-25, 2003, in Harrisburg, Pa.
More than 160 participants representing state policymakers, school board members, educators, parents, business leaders and others attended the event where they had an opportunity to exchange ideas and perspectives about education policy issues.
The three-day forum kicked off with a Pre-Conference workshop on Pennsylvania’s charter school law, featuring Dr. Christopher Nelson of The Evaluation Center at Western Michigan University. Dr. Nelson conducted a five-year review of Pennsylvania’s charter schools for the state.
Popular sessions at the conference included presentations on the “2003 State Budget and Education Finance Issues” by Donna Cooper, Director of Policy for Governor Edward G. Rendell, “Quality and Integrity in K-12 Assessment” by Sharon Robinson, President, Educational Policy Leadership Institute of ETS, and “The State of the Child in Pennsylvania” by Joan Benso, President & CEO, Pennsylvania Partnerships for Children.
EPLC expresses great thanks to the Educational Testing Service (ETS), Association of Pennsylvania State College and University Faculties (APSCUF), and “The Pittsburgh Initiative” of the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards for providing financial support for this first annual conference.
