Annual Arts and Education Symposium

Each year, The Education and Policy Leadership Center and its Arts Education Network hosted an Arts and Education Symposium, and each year, student art was highlighted on the cover of the event program. 

  • Year 1 – October 13, 2011 at the State Museum of Pennsylvania
  • Year 2 – October 11, 2012 at the State Museum of Pennsylvania
    • Keynote by Ayanna Hudson, Director of Arts Education for the National Endowments for the Arts
  • Year 3 – October 30, 2013 at the State Museum of Pennsylvania
    • Student Performance of Pieces by M-Uth Theatre of Millersville  University
    • Keynote by Ian David Moss, Founder, Createquity; Research Director, Fractured Atlas
  • Year 4 – October 2, 2014 at the State Museum of Pennsylvania
    • Indiana University of PA Dance Theater performed 2 pieces: Enough! and Inventors’ Fantasy
    • Keynote by Dennis Inhulsen, President, National Art Education Association
  • Year 5 – October 29, 2015 at the Radisson Hotel Harrisburg Convention Center
    • Pittsburgh’s Hill Dance Academy Theatre’s traveling performers, Ju.B.Lation: Spirit Filled Feet, performed Night Crossing and Listen
    • Keynote by Scott C. Shuler, Past-President, National Association for Music Education
  • Year 6 – October 27, 2016 at the Radisson Hotel Harrisburg Convention Center
    • Lower Dauphin High School’s Chamber Singers, a select a capella choir, performed three pieces from their repertoire
    • Keynote by Lynn Tuttle, Director of Content and Policy, National Association for Music Education
  • Year 7 – November 2, 2017 at the Radisson Hotel Harrisburg Convention Center
    • The CD Singers of Central Dauphin performed several works 
    • Madalina Richardson, Pennsylvania’s Poetry Out Loud State Champion from Masterman High School in Philadelphia, presented Caged Bird by Maya Angelou and Bleeding Heart by Carmen Gimenez Smith
