Commander Posey is an Assistant Professor at the United States Army War College’s Department of Military Strategy, Planning, and Operations. He received his commission as a Naval Flight Officer (NFO) from Carnegie Mellon University Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps in 1998 and has been designated as an Air Wing Strike Lead, Command Duty Officer Underway, Battle Watch Captain, Joint Qualified Officer, Carrier Airborne Command and Control Weapons School Weapons and Tactics Instructor, and a Navy Fighter Weapons School (TOPGUN) Air Intercept Controller. As a fleet E-2C Hawkeye NFO, he accumulated over 2300 flight hours, 620 arrested landing, 65 combat missions, and led five Air Wing strikes in combat. He also held a NATOPS qualification and flew over 100 hours in the F/A-18F Super Hornet.
His sea duty assignments include Mission Commander/Division Officer at Carrier Airborne Command and Control Squadron 116, Air Plans/Air Warfare Officer at Carrier Air Wing Eleven, Air Wing Strike Lead/Department Head at Carrier Airborne Command and Control Squadron 123, and Force Tactical Action Officer/Joint Strategic Plans and Policy Officer at Battle Force Seventh Fleet.
His shore duty assignments include Weapons and Tactics Instructor at Carrier Airborne Command and Control Squadron 120, Service Chief Intern at the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency, Military Faculty at Joint Forces Staff College where he was the Joint Command, Control, and Information Operations School’s “2014 Instructor of the Year,” and Operations Officer at Naval Base Ventura County, CA. At the U.S Army War College, he has been recognized with the excellence in education innovation award, 2024 and the excellence in teaching award, 2025.
Commander Posey is a doctoral candidate (Education) at the Pennsylvania State University. He holds a master of strategic studies (superior graduate) from the U.S. Army War College, a master of business administration (with honors) from the University of Florida, a master of military operational art and science from Air University, a graduate certificate in international relations from Salve Regina University, and two graduate certificates from the Naval Postgraduate School in information systems and operations, and artificial intelligence for military use. He completed Pennsylvania’s Education and Policy Leadership Center’s education and policy fellowship program in May 2023 and the advanced education policy leadership program in May 2026. He is also on track to complete the U.S. Military Academy (Westpoint) Master Teaching Program in April 2027.
He has been awarded the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, two Meritorious Service Medals, Air Medal (two Strike/Flight Awards), and four Navy Commendation Medals (one with combat distinguishing device) in addition to various service and campaign medals. He has produced over thirty published articles related to military strategy, technology, and leadership.
